Charlie Blackmon ended his career on Sunday after spending his entire MLB career with the Colorado Rockies. In a ceremony before Sunday’s game, the Rockies’ final game of the season, Charlie Blackmon was honored for his 14-year career.

The longtime Colorado Rockies outfielder known for his bushy beard tipped his cap to the cheering fans one last time as a player on Sunday before a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“His work ethic was the best I’ve ever seen,” said Arenado, a likely Hall of Famer. Rockies fans know all about Blackmon’s drive, strict routine, and Charlie Hustle style. But the man behind the beard is infinitely more interesting than the four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger.

An emotional scene took place on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field as longtime Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon ran out to his outfield position by himself, allowing himself to hear the roar of the raucous crowd.

Blackmon, 38, announced his retirement this month after spending his entire major league career with the Rockies. He was drafted by the Rockies from Georgia Tech in 2008 and made his major league debut in June 2011.

Blackmon, like Helton before him, learned to deal with the losing. He loved this state and how the fans embraced him. Even without his beard, his walk-up song, “Your Love” by The Outfield, made him an icon, the crowd finishing off the “Toniiiiiiiight” lyrics.
