Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday expelled eight leaders from the party for six years for choosing to contest the Haryana assembly elections as independent candidates against official party nominees.

Ranjit Singh Chautala decided to quit the saffron party after he was denied the poll ticket from Rania, the seat he represented in the Assembly when he was an independent MLA.

Elections for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 5 and the results will be declared on October 8.

The list includes the names of former minister Ranjit Chautala and former MLA Devendra Kadyan. Chutala is contesting from Rania, while Kadyan is fighting from Gannaur.
