NEARLY EIGHT years after he laid the foundation stone of the Pune Metro Rail project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday virtually inaugurated the 3.68-km stretch of the Pune Metro from District Court to Swargate, marking completion of the project’s first phase.

Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects of Rs 11,200 crore in Maharashtra via video conference. His visit to Pune scheduled on September 26 was cancelled due to heavy rains in the city.

On Thursday, the Prime Minister had to cancel his visit due to predictions of heavy rain and the fact that the SP College Ground where he was supposed to address a rally had turned slushy.
