With the College Football Playoff field freshly expanded from four to 12, the first rankings emerged Tuesday night, and the first prospective bracket featured first-round byes for No. 1 Oregon (9-0), No. 3 Georgia (7-1), No. 4 Miami (9-0) and No. 9 BYU (8-0).

Unbeaten Oregon is the No. 1 team in the first rankings released by the College Football Playoff selection committee Tuesday. The Ducks were followed by Ohio State, Georgia, Miami and Texas in the top five.

Ohio State is at No. 2 as its only loss came at Oregon in a 32-31 thriller. It's very possible the Ducks and Buckeyes could meet again in the Big Ten championship game, but Indiana will have a say in that. The Hoosiers visit Columbus on Nov. 23 in a game that could serve as a semifinal of sorts for the conference title game.
