The Denmark-based drug maker Zealand Pharma said Tuesday that its experimental weight-loss drug could help patients lose pounds with fewer side effects than current anti-obesity medications on the market.

But after gaining more than 20 pounds during undergraduate and graduate school and feeling unhappy with her weight, the Hollywood resident found herself mixing vials in her kitchen to create her own doses of a popular weight-loss drug.

While plenty of people rave about the weight loss results you can get from drugs like Ozempic, there’s also been a ton of chatter over the fact that these meds are really expensive. These drugs have also been in and out of shortage, making it tough to get your hands on Ozempic and similar medications—if you can afford it.

The drugmaker hopes to show CagriSema leads to at least 25% weight loss, without increased side effects. Its lead in a red-hot market hinges on it.

Novo Nordisk (NVO), the maker of blockbuster weight-loss and diabetes drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, has entered an agreement with Denmark-based Ascendis Pharma (ASND) to leverage the latter’s advanced drug delivery technology.

A few months after the episode aired, Lizzo was accused of taking the real Ozempic to lose weight and denied the claims, which makes her costume all the more ironic. She posted her response to the comments on Instagram, writing: “When you finally get Ozempic allegations after five months of weight training and calorie deficit.”
