Nearly a million people were displaced, flights were canceled and classes remain suspended in many areas today as Super Typhoon Pepito barreled across Luzon, making two landfalls and causing extensive damage in its wake.

Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) is now over the Philippine Sea east of Quezon province, prompting the state weather bureau to raise Signal No. 5 over parts of Polillo Islands and Calaguas Island.

Ahead of its landfall on Sunday, November 17, tropical cyclone "Pepito" (international name: Man-Yi) maintained its super typhoon category strength as it heads for the vicinity of Aurora where it is likely to make a landfall by midday.

More areas have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 as Super Typhoon Pepito continues to threaten "potentially catastrophic" impact on the Bicol region, the state weather bureau said Saturday afternoon.

Signal No. 5 remained hoisted over Calaguas Islands and the eastern portion of Polillo Islands on Sunday morning as Super Typhoon Pepito moved over the sea east of Quezon, PAGASA said.
